Part-Time Virtual Maternal Health Peer Advocate - Wolomi Mama Companion
Wolomi is a maternal health advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. We are a woman-led team of strategists passionate about empowering women of color on their pregnancy journey. The Part-Time Virtual Maternal Health Peer Advocate, known in the Wolomi community as a Mama Companion, is an opportunity for a mom that is confident and passionate about improving the experience of black and brown moms during their pregnancy and postpartum period. As a Wolomi Mama Companion, you will help moms orient to the Wolomi app and services. The Mama Companion will also help assigned moms find resources as needed to be successful on their journey.

What You'll Do:

The primary responsibility of the Mama Companion is to assist pregnant and postpartum moms going through their pregnancy by making sure they are participating on the Wolomi app, pregnancy circle, and birth classes

Compile lists of community referrals needed during pregnancy and postpartum

Refer moms to community resources as needed

Accurately screen and assess mom's pregnancy journey and needs, review demographic and nutrition data

Receive and maintain a caseload of Wolomi pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding moms, and make routine contact, per Wolomi protocols with all mothers assigned

Respect each mom by keeping her information confidential

Assist with presenting prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups

Follow-up with accurate documentation per established protocols as needed and/or required

Complete mandatory trainings timely

Other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For:

High School diploma or equivalent required (College education preferred)

Must have successfully breastfed or expressed breastmilk for at least one baby
-
Must have a birthing experience in the United States

Knowledge of the healthcare environment in the District of Columbia and Prince George's County (Preferred)

Must be a self starter, energetic and passionate about supporting BIPOC moms during pregnancy and postpartum.

Ability to adapt and work in a changing (startup) work environment

You'll work part time at approximately 20-35 hours a week. We are intentional about creating a meaningful experience for our moms. This is a very hands-on role for someone seeking to truly be a companion for other moms of color.
